Eat and Lose Weight - HowTo
Did you know that you can eat a lot and still lose weight? It sounds too good to be true, right? Here are some ways to make it happen.
11 Steps - HowTo:
1. Eat more fresh food! Choose fresh, nutrient-rich, healthy, low-fat foods rather than junk food. Junk food can range from burgers to those cookies that you always bought! Adding a lot of vegetables and fruits to your diet will help you, they keep you feeling full for longer than processed food so you won't even feel the need to eat loads. Also, drinkingbouillon, a Haitian soup, made with filtered water will help you feel full.
2. Exercise every day! This could be the most difficult step to follow. But what you can do is actually start slowly then steady increase the amount of exercise. For example, today you will walk for 10 minutes, repeat this for the whole week. For the next week, double your workload. You may get leaner that way! The important thing is to get your heart rate up and start, now!
3. Feed your temptations once in a while. Go ahead and have that doughnut or slice of pizza, but before you do, drink 8 glasses water and eat a bowl of raw veggies such as cucumbers, celery, carrots, and tomatoes. They will fill you up and you will have very little room to eat the "junk" food.
4. Consume things that have no calories. There are two things you eat and drink that contain no calories: water and fiber. The more of these you get into your diet, the better off you will be. For example, you can eat a pound of mixed salad greens with assorted raw vegetables (carrots, red cabbage, celery, broccoli, onion, etc.) with a low or no-calorie salad dressing and only have eaten 100-150 calories. This is because of the high water and fiber content of the salad and low calorie dressing. Also, eat lots of celery. It has only 8 calories, but amazingly, it takes more than 8 calories to digest it. So, you actually BURN calories by eating celery! It's not much, about 2 calories per 8 inch stalk, but it sure doesn't hurt.

- Avoid sodas as much as possible. Instead, drink flavored water or unsweetened iced tea. Caffeine, when placed in a low-calorie beverage like black coffee or unsweetened tea, raises your metabolism and causes you to burn more calories. Too much caffeine has harmful health effects, though, so be reasonable in your consumption if you choose to have caffeine.
5. Include foods which burn fat for you. By choosing your foods carefully, you can drop the pounds without going hungry. There are many foods out there that are proven to help you to lose weight, foods such as chilli, green tea, berries and whole grain, can do various things to help you to drop the pounds, by avoiding insulin spikes and keeping your metabolic rate going.
6. Have broth-based soups. They are relatively low in calories. A commercially-available ready to eat "chicken and stars" soup may only have 80 calories for 1 serving, much less than diet "meal shakes" or nutrition bars.
7. Practice good eating habits. Always use utensils and sit at the table. This stops you from eating precariously. Eating with your hands will mean that you take in more food in one scoop. Don't forget to eat slowly and stop when you're full. Similar to the above step, if you can't stop, drink up! Maybe your body is thirsty and hungry no more! Also, you can do any other chores (other than eating). For instance, go shopping, or play badminton with your friend, or play games on the computer!
8. Drink more water. Often we mistake thirst for hunger which means we eat when it's not necessary. By keeping yourself well hydrated you'll feel hungry less as well as getting a clearer complextion and shinier hair.
9. Spread out your diet! Eat more small chunks of meals, rather than 3 big meals. If you eat 100-150 calories or so every two hours, your body stays in a higher-metabolism digesting mode. This allows you to burn more calories than eating just 3 meals a day.
10. Record what you eat! This is a simple yet very powerful exercise to open your eyes to see whether you are keeping up with the dieting plan. Often, we tend to overlook those snacking we do between meals and really think that our diet is failing us. But the truth is there can be many petty things that we do that really affect our dieting plan. For example, one might skip breakfast 3 times a week without being conscious about it. Studies have shown that if you eat breakfast, you tend to eat proportionally fewer calories the rest of the day. Without a record, it might seem like you are doing all the right thing, yet fail miserably in your dieting plan.
11. Make vegetables a major part of your diet plan! If vegetables are not a major part of your diet, it is time to reconsider. Studies have shown that vegetables can play an important loss in losing weight. This is because vegetables are high in water and fiber and low in energy density.
Warning:
- Limit the following:
- Soda: the average soda is full of calories, sugar, and other chemicals.
- Too much bread/butter: A slice of bread with butter has around 170 calories (100 calories per medium sliced slice of bread and 70 calories per 10g of butter).
- Large portions: You’ll end up eating much less and save a lot of money as a bonus!
- Dressing: Salad dressing is the main source of calories and other things to avoid in salad, try vinegar or hummus as a low-cal dressing.
- Try to limit water consumption to 10 glasses per day. People can drink far more water than necessary while exercising, however, putting them at risk of water intoxication. (Water intoxication is incredibly rare, and easy to avoid by making sure to consume electrolytes, even just salt, along with the large amounts of water)
- You have to exercise and eat healthier, otherwise you may not notice any improvement and—even worse—you may gain weight.
- If you need to lose more than 10% of your body weight, consult with your primary-care physician before beginning any weight loss plan.

Celebrate Christmas with budget - HowTo
Having Christmas on a budget isn't always easy but there are things you can do to ease the financial burden and still enjoy Christmas without cutting down on quality. Follow the suggested steps here and ensure that your Christmas is a time for giving as much has you have rather than what you don't have.
11 Steps HowTo:
1. Set a Christmas budget in advance. Before the frenzy of Christmas time descends, work out how much you're able and prepared to spend on Christmas festivities, gifts, and catering. The amount will depend on how much you've already saved, how much you can set aside from current funds, and how much you can spare in the weeks leading up to Christmas. If you start early enough, you'll have more leeway to save a bit more.
- Work out how much you want to spend on people for presents and include decorations, food, and whatever else you think you will need.
- Stick to your budget – it's the indicator of what you can and cannot afford.
- Consider starting a budget straight after Christmas for future years. Start saving early, put money into a savings account each month or week and stick to it. Doing this will give you a lump sum to spend in December rather than scraping together money. Budget well – this should include food, decorations, presents and anything else you may buy at Christmas.
2. Talk to family about the costs and gifts. Sit down and make decisions about limits on gifts. This is especially important in large families where the costs of buying a gift for every member of the family can soon add up. Seek agreement that you'll only spend so much per person.
- If you're really strapped, a decision to only give gifts to the children can sometimes ease budget constraints.
- One way to spend less on presents is to have each family member bring one present and then to Play the "Goofy Gift Exchange" Christmas Game or Play Santa's Present.
- Remind everyone that thoughtfully chosen gifts are more important than expensive ones.
3. Hold a "catch-up" Christmas. If your family overdid the spending last Christmas and your budget is still really stretched, consider not spending for one Christmas. One non-spending Christmas will ensure that your budget catches up. There are still a lot of things you can do to celebrate Christmas without spending money:
- Make a nice meal, not an expensive one. Look at old cookbook recipes for thrifty Christmas cooking.
- Make homemade gifts from recycled and inexpensive items.
- Don't buy any new decorations and either use a live tree in a planter from your garden, or an artificial tree kept in your storage.
4. Take advantage of sales during the year. Sales closer to Christmas can be worth marking on your calendar, such as end-of-summer sales, sales after Thanksgiving, etc.
- Take advantage of the post-Christmas sales to start buying gifts, cards, wrapping paper, decorations, tableware, etc., for next Christmas. Be sure to put these somewhere that they're easier to find and use when Christmas comes around.
- Keep a list of whose gifts you've already purchased, so that you don't double up on gifts.
- Keep an eye on auction sites and overstocked goods sites for bargains during the lead-up to Christmas. And use price comparison websites to make sure you are paying at the best price.
- Use any rebates, coupons, discounts, or promotions that you have access to. If you're not sure, ask.
5. Make your own cards. Recycle last year's cards and turn them into this year's cards. Simply cut out the decorative part of the card and attach it to plain cardboard. Use markers to decorate. Do the same for gift tags.
- The possibilities are endless!
- Make snowmen Christmas cards
- Make a Christmas tree pop-up card (Robert Sabuda method)
- Make Christmas cards from wrapping paper
- Create a Christmas card using Microsoft Publisher
- Make your own wrapping paper. Use brown paper and stamp Christmas designs on it using stamps or cut stamp designs out of potatoes. Use simple gold, red, green, silver, and white ribbon to add color if wished.
- Make your own labels. Printable gift labels on the internet or making you own and printing them off can save pounds or dollars on gift tags.
6. Make your own Christmas gifts. Use the skills you're best at, such as knitting, crocheting, woodwork, sewing, decoupage, putting together a basket, cooking, etc. A small selection of ideas:
- Make a "recipe in a jar" gift
- Make spice hot mats
- Make a gift voucher for your parents for Christmas
- For more ideas, see the very detailed article How to make your own Christmas gifts and various articles on making Christmas gifts. And don't forget the magic of baking homemade goodies for Christmas!
7. Make your own Christmas decorations. There are many nifty Christmas decorations that can be made from items already in the home. Here are a few suggestions to get you started:
- Make a 3D paper snowflake
- Make a Christmas card star
- Make a simple foam Christmas ornament
- Make Christmas crackers
- Make Christmas ornaments from dough; or
- Make a small Christmas penguin ornament.
8. Cut out unnecessary items. There are a lot of items that aren't needed and are unnecessary waste at Christmas time. Save your money and finite resources by not including them in your Christmas celebrations. Examples include:
- Ribbons, bows, fancy tape, stickers, etc., are usually tossed away.
- Plastic tablecloths with Christmas designs. Either use plain colored tablecloths from your linen cupboard, or go without.
- Don't spend massive amounts of money on outside lights, keep it to a minimum and inside lights should be left off at all times when no-one is in the room, this saves on energy bills.
9. Get everyone to pitch in with both resources and effort. If there are people coming to your house for Christmas dinner, assign them tasks to help out. At the very least, ask them if they want to bring anything; this takes pressure off you and generally people do want to bring something and contribute in meaningful ways.
10. Store your Christmas decorations well after use. This will mean that there is no need to replace them year after year. If you look after your decorations, they will look after you!
- Keep fragile decorations wrapped and boxed. Place all decorations in a storage place that won't be disturbed.
- Read How to create an inventory of Christmas decorations for more ideas.
11. Buy an artificial Christmas tree (preferably in the sales) and look after it. A real tree costs money every year, both in terms of purchasing it and fuel needed to collect it. An artificial tree is a one-off cost. An artificial pre-lit tree can also save money in lights and if one bulb goes, the others will carry on working, obviously depending on which tree.
- Make gift tags in the same way as making the cards with scraps of card, paper, stickers, and glitter.
- Consider looking in thrift stores and secondhand stores for gift ideas. Many items are still brand new, in their original packaging! And other items might provide you with inspiration for reusing and turning into new gifts using your sewing, gluing, hammering, etc., skills.
- Use old wrapping paper scraps to stick onto home-made cards.
- Be careful that you don't spend more on making items than buying them, weighing everything up is vital.

Sleep with a snoring partner - HowTo
Sleep loss resulting from snoring partners is at an all time high. There are many reasons why people snore and most of them are difficult to remedy. However there are effective NEW ways to protect yourself from snoring noise, without your partner having to actually stop snoring.
7 steps how to:
1. Know Thy Self! Decide if still being able to hear the snoring noise, only at reduced volume is tolerable for you. If so you may find foam earplugs to be an alternative. Earplugs are well suited for reducing the air transmitted half of the way snoring gets into your ear.
2. You will need to spend some time with the earplugs to determine if you will be able to tolerate having a full feeling in your ear canal throughout the night and sometimes a slight feeling of suction.
3. If you are like most people who have difficulty falling or returning to sleep when you hear any snoring noise at all. Then you will want to use a masking sound that is specifically designed to override the on and off of snoring, which is what keeps people awake. Also these special smooth and relaxing sounds address both routes that snoring uses to get into your ears, which are air transmission (through the ear canal only) and bone conduction (through the skull and jaw bones), which earplugs do not address.
4. You'll need to locate and download the file of your choice and install it on your personal player.
5. Acquire a pair of the soft foam "booties" that can be placed over your ear buds, which makes them very comfortable and secure, or possibly even use one of the new speaker type pillows.
6. Play the snore masking file at the lowest level needed to cover up the on and off of the snoring. You will then be able to sleep as you would with the sound of an air conditioner or fan running, only these particular sounds are targeted specifically to drowned out snoring fluctuations.
7. Your brain will then automatically desensitize to snoring sound and be able to tune out all of the snoring, so that you can fall asleep naturally.

Warning:
- Many people mistakenly believe that the noise canceling type headphones may work for snoring, however they are not capable of subduing snoring noise and again only address the air transmitted (through the ear canal)portion of the sound travel.
- Don't confuse these new snore masking sounds with common white noise, rain, wind or ocean sounds. Those types of noises may have a calming effect, but will not prevent you from hearing snoring sounds.
